Tivvy boss Martyn Rogers must have been very pleased with what he saw from his team that included four trialists. Ex-Southampton and Shrewsbury professional Nathan Blamey made an impressive debut at the heart of the Tivvy defence. Other promising contributions came from former Exeter City defender Luke Vinnicombe and the dominating figure of Truro City midfielder Lee Harvey.
The first half was pretty much an even affair with both teams having opportunities to open the scoring. Richard Pears‚ Kevin Nancekivell and Pete Varley having chances to put Tivvy ahead. At the other end‚ Guy Whittingham and Adam Newton forced Paul Edwards into making superb saves to deny Portsmouth the lead.
The second half saw Martyn Rogers try out his new trialists which gave Tivvy a strange appearance and a difference to the team´s shape and rhythm‚ allowing Portsmouth more of the possession and it was no surprise when in the 59th minute Martin Phillips fired home past a powerless Paul Edwards. Following some good play from Tivvy‚ both Richard Pears and Kevin Nancekivell went extremely close to getting Tivvy a deserved goal‚ but it wasn´t to be. With three minutes to go teenager Luke Nightingale was at hand to jab home Portsmouths second following a rebound when Paul Edwards was only able to parry Thomas Thorgenson´s shot.
Line up: Edwards‚ Fallon‚ Tatterton‚ Smith‚ Saunders‚ Leonard‚ Daly‚ Rogers‚ Nancekivell‚ Pears‚ Varley‚ Tucker‚ Richardson‚ Blamey‚ Harvey‚ Vinnicombe‚ Ovens.
Not playing: Everett‚ Conning‚ Tallon.
