The unofficial archives of Tiverton Town Football Club
Mike SouthcottAs a player Mike Southcott enjoyed success at Ladysmead in the mid 1960s and was a key player during the transition from Devon & Exeter to Western League football. His managerial tenure was far more testing; having controversially inherited the role from Mike Howe amongst a wave of boardroom politicking, his five-year stay saw two mass exoduses of the playing squad, one immediately as the charges he inherited largely walked out in protest of Howe's sacking, and again in 1984 when plans were announced that the club would resign from the Western League. That Southcott came through these challenges and went a long way to stabalising the club despite a zero-pound budget and constant backtoom unrest is testimony to his legacy. |
