The unofficial archives of Tiverton Town Football Club
John OwenHaving joined the club from Clyst Rovers as a coach in 1984, Owen took over as manager from Mike Southcott in a move that signalled the emergence of Tiverton as a force within the Western League. He attracted the likes of Richard Forbes, Kevin Bryant and Phil Adcock to the club and, after years of battling at the wrong end of the table Owen formulated a team that began to press towards the healthy end of the standings. His five-year spell as manager culmiated in promotion to the Premier Division, the club's first appearance in the First Round Proper of the FA Cup, and when he stepped aside and took on the role of Assistant Manager in 1991 Tivvy was in far better health than it had been for 25 years. |
