Match report

Tiverton Town 1 - 1 Dorchester Town

   Saturday 09/10/1999   FA Trophy
Nigel Davis

In a game that saw a much improved performance‚ Tiverton had by far the best of the play and can count themselves very unlucky not to have gone in with a half time lead‚ indeed they should have won the game in which they created over twenty goal scoring opportunities. However‚ it was Dorchester who took the lead at the start of the second half. Dominic Richardson was adjudged to have handled in the area and Danny O´Hagan stepped up and made no mistake with the penalty. Dominic Richardson quickly became the hero when he scored the equaliser - an excellent header from a Graham Waters cross.
Tivvy dominated for long periods but could not convert their chances. In the first five minutes Richard Pears twice connected badly in front of goal and shortly after‚ Graham Waters went very close with two long range efforts one taking a deflection and the other collected cleanly by James Dungey in the Dorchester goal.
Steve Ovens must have wondered what he had to do to score‚ as three times he was through on the ´keeper. Twice his efforts were smothered by Dungey and then he watched on agonisingly as his lob cleared the ´keeper only to clear the crossbar as well. In the second half Ovens´ deflected shot looped tantalisingly‚ narrowly missing as the ball span off the cross bar.
Tivvy started the second half without Stuart Smith after picking up a knock in the first half and was replaced by Luke Vinnicombe. They started strongly‚ but in the 49th minute the referree Butler‚ awarded the penalty. Tivvy to their credit‚ did not lose composure and continued to pressure the impressive Dorchester defence. Steve Ovens headed just over from a Richard Pears near post cross and Kevin Nancekivell looked certain to score but the ball seemed to take all afternoon to come down for him. Tivvy´s efforts were rewarded on 58 minutes when Dominic Richardson scored his first goal for Tivvy with a well taken far post header that gave Dungey no chance.
Line up: Edwards‚ Richardson‚ Saunders‚ Tatterton‚ Smith‚ Rogers‚ Nancekivell‚ Pears‚ Ovens‚ Daly‚ Waters.
Subs: Everett (Waters 65)‚ Varley (Richardson 72)‚ Vinnicombe (Smith 45).
