In a hard fought game‚ Tivvy triumphed with two excellent goals‚ one in each half. The first goal‚ scored by Phil Everett‚ was an absolute peach. On 23 minutes‚ a Paul Edwards´ throw started a one touch‚ five man move through the field. Steve Daly picked out Dominic Richardson who‚ in one move‚ controlled and turned the ball with his chest‚ passed to Phil to take it on his right foot before looking up‚ beating his man and shooting with his left across the keeper to sink the ball into the far right hand corner. The only Cirencester player to touch the ball form Paul´s throw was the player who picked it out of their net. Dominic´s goal‚ in the 80th minute‚ was also a well worked goal. He collected the ball out near the byline from Steve Daly after it had been won by Luke Vinnicombe. He turned‚ beat his man and ran 20 yards at and across the goal before letting loose a powerful drive with his left foot that the keeper could not stop‚ even though he got a hand to it. Tivvy played some very good football and contained a spirited Cirencester side. Scoring opportunities were few‚ Phil Everett had two chances to increase the lead in the first half‚ but both efforts were off target. In the second half as Tivvy increased the pressure‚ both Kevin Nancekivell and Pete Varley came tantalisingly close‚ but the ball would either not fall fast enough or it would hit one of the frantic defenders in the Cirencester goalmouth. Pete Varley who ran himself into the ground and was also on the receiving end of one or two dubious tackles came off in the 80th minute to be replaced by Geraint Bater. Geraint took over at left wing back and Phil took over Pete Varley´s role up front.
Cirencester are a very good side and were obviously up for this one‚ but for all their possession and approach play they did not really threaten the Tivvy goal‚ except when our charitable defending handed one or two chances on a silver plate. But overall Tivvy defended very well against a very quick side and kept a clean sheet‚ which can not be at all bad. Well done lads‚ it was a very good‚ spirited performance.
Line up: Edwards‚ Vinnicombe‚ Saunders‚ Tatterton‚ Tallon‚ Conning‚ Nancekivell‚ Varley‚ Richardson‚ Daly‚ Everett.
Subs: Rogers‚ Smith‚ Bater (Varley 80).
