Paget Rangers 1 - 2 Tiverton Town

Saturday 26/02/2000   Southern League First Division
Nigel Davis

Tivvy´s unbeaten run was extended to six games with a well earned victory in Birmingham‚ but failure to convert chances and conceding a soft goal left Tivvy a harder than necessary task before they could collect another three points. Paget Rangers took the lead against the run of play midway through the first half. Although Tivvy created the better chances‚ with Steve Ovens‚ Pete Varley and Phil Everett going close‚ it was Paget´s Jamie Shipway´s 24th minute speculative lob from outside the area‚ clearing three defenders and Paul Edwards to creep just inside the post‚ that seperated the sides at half time. Tivvy came out in the second half with all guns blazing and it was no surprise when Phil Everett scored his fifth goal in the last six games when he headed home at the near post from Pete Conning´s 46th minute in-swinging corner. Tivvy continued to dominate throughout the second half with efforts form Pete Varley‚ Phil Everett and Dominic Richardson all going very close. Tivvy waited until the 71st minute to seal the win. The goal came from another corner and this time it was Nicky Marker´s turn‚ when he thankfully received the ball from a poor clearance and made no mistake‚ shooting home from the edge of the penalty area.

Dave Leonard‚ injured in the opening match of the season‚ was welcomed back into action as he made a brief appearance from the subs bench late in the game.
