Banfield was a consistent goalscorer during his playing time at Ladysmead, leading the club's scoring charts in the 1958/59 season, and he ammassed more than 100 goals in just five full seasons. He was regarded highly at the start of his career and even had a trial with West Bromwich Albion in 1956, who were then managed by visionary coach Vic Buckingham, who would later set the foundations of what would become known as Total Fotball when managing Ajax in the mid-60s. Banfield himself remained associated with Tiverton and stepped in to take cotrol of three games in erly 1982 after the controversial dismissal of Mike Howe. |
