Tiverton Town 0 - 1 Dagenham & Redbridge

Tiverton Town are still waiting for their first pre-season friendly win after Dagenham and Redbridge capitalised on a lacklustre first-half display to win 1-0 at Ladysmead on Saturday.

Tivvy fell behind to a Danny Shipp goal in the 35th minute of a first half which saw last year´s FA Cup giantkillers hold sway. But after introducing Steve Ovens and new recruit Antony Lynch at half-time‚ boss Martyn Rogers felt his side picked up a gear. The Ambers had a good chance to equalise in the 51st minute when an Ovens cross was just missed by both Lynch and Kevin Nancekivell‚ and with five minutes left Luke Vinnicombe volleyed just over the bar.

Rogers told Echo Sport: "To be fair‚ they dominated the first half‚ but we changed things around a bit at half-time and I felt that after a bit of a chat we looked a lot more committed and a better side in the second half so that was quite pleasing. "Putting Lynch and Ovens on at half-time sharpened us up and we were a lot better after that." Rogers started the game with at least four members of what would be his first choice starting XI — goalkeeper Paul Edwards‚ Steve Daly‚ Lynch and Ovens — either on the bench or unavailable‚ with Edwards and Daly being forced to pull out due to other commitments.

Edwards´ absence saw 19-year-old Peterborough triallist John Vaughan step into the goalkeeping fray‚ and do his chances of a permanent contract at Ladysmead no harm at all with a confident display. Another triallist is Taunton Town midfield man Martin Parker‚ who put in a substitute appearance against Crystal Palace on Thursday and was given another opportunity to shine on Saturday. Rogers said of him: "We are just having a look at him at the moment. He is a strong player who could help us out this year. He is the sort of player I admire and would not let us down. "I have known him from Western League days and he has always impressed me with his workrate. But he would be up against Kevin Nancekivell‚ who would probably be my first choice at the moment."
