Tiverton Town held Nationwide League Division 2 side Reading at bay for almost an hour last night before slipping to an unlucky 3-1 defeat at Ladysmead. The Dr Martens League Premier Division new boys took the lead against the Royals five minutes into the second half. A chip from Paul Chenoweth was sent into the path of star midfielder Kevin Nancekivell by new recruit Antony Lynch‚ the former Plymouth Argyle man shooting home to put Tivvy ahead for the first time in their pre-season campaign. But an own goal by the unfortunate Dave Leonard soon levelled matters‚ before Reading´s Tony Rougier was brought down inside the box by Neil Saunders for Martin Butler to put the visitors ahead on 66 minutes.

A goal in the dying minutes from Darius Henderson sealed the Ambers´ fate‚ but Tivvy boss Martyn Rogers was delighted with his team´s performance. "I thought the lads were superb last night. "It was a good game of football. Reading played well to be fair‚ but we stuck in there and I was more than happy." Rogers also had some words of encouragement for Lynch‚ who is yet to score in his first three appearances in a Tivvy shirt. "I was pleased with him. He is getting stronger and stronger and there were a lot of plusses all round last night."
