Match report

Blakenall 0 - 3 Tiverton Town

Saturday 05/05/2001   Southern League First Division

Tivvy clinched their Premier Division place at Blakenall with a commanding performance. Right from the outset it was clear that they were not going let this opportunity slip. Tivvy applied constant pressure with wave after wave of attacking football that saw them win countless corners and it was from one such corner after 18 minutes that Paul Chenoweth put Tivvy ahead with a vicious inswinging corner. It will probably go down as an own goal by Blakenall´s Ronnie Walker‚ but from where I was standing the ball was over the line before he helped it into the roof of the net. The goal was just what the lads needed and the relaxation was clearly visible as they went on to dominate.
Apart from one or two close shaves in the second half‚ the Tivvy defence coped admirably with Blakenall taking advantage of the slope. Tivvy had to wait until the 77th minute before they could relax totally‚ Scott Rogers stabbing home the second goal‚ and celebrations began 7 minutes later when Kevin Nancekivell added the third and by then the players were grinning from ear to ear.
To gain promotion in such emphatic style is trully an amazing achievement and one that will be remembered for many a year. The lads managed to take 38 points from 15 matches in just 28 days - absolutely incredible.

Line up: 1 Paul Edwards‚ 2 Scott Rogers‚ 3 Neil Saunders‚ 4 Stuart Smith‚ 5 Nicky Marker‚ 6 Paul Chenoweth‚ 7 Kevin Nancekivell‚ 8 Steve Ovens‚ 9 Phil Everett‚ 10 Steve Daly‚ 11 Dave Leonard.

Subs: 12 Dave Toomey (Paul Chenoweth 53)‚ 14 Richard Pears (Nicky Marker 60)‚ 15 Pete Conning (Steve Winter 47).
