Former Tivvy favourite Jason Smith made a winning return to Ladysmead with his new club Swansea City. He was oustanding as Swansea‚ managed by John Hollins‚ secured a 2-0 victory in the friendly agreed as part off Jason´s transfer deal. "It was great to come back to Tiverton‚ keep a clean sheet and win‚" said Jason. " I enjoyed seeing all my old mates‚ I´ve got a awful lot of friends here."
Giant striker Julian Alsop ensured Swansea got off to a flying start as his fourth minute header was stabbed home by Steve Watkin. Three minutes later Alsop‚ again in ther thick of things‚ nodded home Nick Cusack´s free kick past Paul Edwards. It was by no means a one sided affair though‚ as Tivvy had their chances with Richard Pears‚ Kevin Nancekivell and new loan signing Steve Ovens all going tantalizingly close in the first half. Indeed‚ Richard Pears missed a great chance to put Tivvy back in the game when his eighth minute penalty‚ awarded after Jones had handled‚ hit the post. Tivvy had their chances in the second half. The best falling to Kevin Nancekivell‚ who had to watch his goal bound effort cleared off the line by Martin Thomas.
Martyn Rogers‚ after the game‚ said "It was another excellent work our for us‚ Swansea are a big‚ powerful side but we coped with their physical presence well. "We´ve had a very testing pre-season programme against four Football League teams. I´m happy with the way that things are progressing."
Line up: Edwards‚ Vinnicombe‚ Saunders‚ Tallon‚ Smith‚ Leonard‚ Rogers‚ Nancekivell‚ Richardson‚ Conning‚ Harvey‚ Ovens‚ Pears.
Not playing: Tatterton‚ Chesterfield‚ Fallon‚ Daly‚ Tucker‚ Everett‚ Varley.
