Tuesday 17/08/1999   Southern League First Division
Nigel Davis

Tivvy claimed their first win in the Dr Martens League with a convincing win over Yate Town. The result never really looked in doubt as Tivvy dominated proceedings. The goals‚ as with Saturdays game‚ came from Steve Ovens and Kevin Nancekivell. Steve Ovens´ sixth minute goal was nicely worked with a cross field ball from Scott Rogers to Phil Everett who cut in towards goal‚ beat a defender and shot at goal. Yate´s keeper‚ Simon Bean was was unable to hold on to the ball and Steve Ovens was on hand to slot the ball home. Kevin Nancekivell then had‚ what seemed‚ a perfectly legitimate goal disallowed for offside. However‚ he was not to be denied Tivvy´s second. On 45 minutes Steve Daly put through a delightful ball to Kevin who turned in the penalty box before rifling in a right foot shot‚ giving Bean no chance.

In a second half in which saw Tivvy go off the boil a bit‚ Richard Pears‚ on for Phil Everett‚ twice went close to adding a third. As it was‚ Yate got the third goal 3 minutes from time. Yate´s Steve Shepherd was on hand to tap the ball home following‚ what looked like‚ a foul on Paul Edwards.

Defenders Stuart Smith and Darren Tallon both picked up injuries. Stuart with a hamstring and Darren‚ a calf strain.
