Tiverton Town 5 - 2 Bilston Town

Saturday 25/09/1999   Southern League First Division

Martyn Rogers heaped praise on his players following a much improved performance. Bilston‚ who had leaked just seven goals in as many league games never had an answer for Tivvy´s movement‚ creativity and desire. It could have been very different though. After seven minutes‚ more sloppy defending was punished by Henry Wright‚ who looked dangerous throughout the whole contest. But the lads were in no mood for defeat following two consecutive reverses with Scott Rogers grabbing the equaliser almost immediately after Stuart Leeding had been sent off for two bookable offences. Unfortunately‚ Tivvy´s numerical advantage didn´t last as Darren Tallon restored parity soon after. Richard Pears calmly converted Steve Daly´s far post cross‚ to put us ahead in first half injury time. The second half continued as the first had finished‚ with Tivvy creating a number of good opportunities. In keeping with our recent trend‚ Kevin Nancekivell latched onto a Pears pass to score within five minutes if the restart. Steve Ovens(who had replaced Phil Everett) looked to have sealed the victory with a neat finish after 77 minutes‚ cooly lobbing the ´keeper before slotting into the empty net. A minute later‚ Bilston´s Henry Wright grabbed his second with a neat diving header. Tivvy had the last word though‚ Steve Ovens scoring his second‚ and Tivvy´s fifth with a header of his own from Richard Pears´ exellent cross after 79 minutes.
Line up: Edwards‚ Fallon‚ Saunders‚ Tatterton‚ Tallon‚ Conning‚ Nancekivell‚ Pears‚ Everett‚ Daly‚ Rogers.
Subs: Richardson (Conning 65)‚ Ovens ( Everett 67)‚ Smith.
