Saturday 02/10/1999   Southern League First Division

On a heavy pitch‚ Tivvy never really looked like getting anything out of the game after a resolute Sutton side had taken an eleventh minute lead. Pint-sized striker Ian Drewitt seized upon a Paul Edwards blunder to condemn Tivvy to their fourth defeat in five games‚ and their worst run of form since September 1989. The contest started evenly‚ with both sides enjoying possesion. But it all went wrong after Drewitt scored his fortuitous goal. Tivvy lost all their shape and fashioned less than a handfull of chances to redress the balance against a very average Sutton side. Matters weren´t helped when‚ after 24 mins Steve Daly had to be stretchered off following a collision with Kevin Nancekivell. Steve Ovens came on to replace him but was never allowed to influence the midfield. Tivvy had to wait until the 45 minute for their first real effort on goal. Richard Pears failing to direct his close range header from a free kick by Graham Waters- Back at the club following a transfer from Barnstaple. Minutes later‚ Steve Ovens struck the crossbar with a brilliant 20 yard volley which Mark Hart‚ the Sutton ´keeper managed to grab at the second attempt. The second half started brightly as Tivvy created two clear cut chances. Phil Everett being guilty of striking his shot straight at Hart after being clean through against him‚ and Nancekivell shooting just wide after neat work around the edge of the box. The only other effort of any note was Stuart Smith´s header from Neil Saunders‚ which flashed just wide after 84 minutes.
Line up: Edwards‚ Richardson‚ Saunders‚ Tatterton‚ Smith‚ Rogers‚ Nancekivell‚ Pears‚ Everett‚ Daly‚ Waters.
Subs: Ovens (Daly 24)‚ Varley (Everett 58)‚ Tallon.
