Tiverton Town 1 - 2 Bath City

Wednesday 08/12/1999   Southern League Cup
Nigel Davis

An excellent performance from a much changed Tivvy saw them narrowly miss out on a place in the next round of the Dr Martens Cup. As with the Farnborough game two weeks ago‚ we dominated for long periods against our loftier opponents but also‚ as with the Farnborough game‚ we did not convert our chances. In the first half Richard Pears blasted over an open goal and failed to convert a penalty in the 20th minute.
Kevin Nancekivell put Tivvy back in the reckoning with a well taken goal in the 29th minute after Bath had built up a two goal lead with Graham Colbourne sticking home a rebound in the 9th minute and Jimmy Fraser scoring from a corner just three minutes after Richard Pears´ penalty miss. Despite very positive play in the second half‚ Tivvy could not get that all important and well deserved equalliser.
On the plus side‚ it was good to see Steve Ovens play his first game since the transfer debacle and with players rested it should be an interesting match at Moor Green on Saturday.
Line up: Edwards‚ Bater‚ Saunders‚ Smith‚ Tallon‚ Conning‚ Nancekivell‚ Pears‚ Everett‚ Rogers‚ Ovens.
