Elliott Durrell inspired Hednesford Town to a comfortable victory in Devon, scoring the first and setting up the second as the Pitmen took home a comfortable 2-0 victory.

The early exchanges delivered little in the way of goalscoring opportunities, but Hednesford were always on top, and should have taken the lead after 24 minutes. Tom Gardner fouled Durrell in the box but Sean Platt’s penalty was saved by Steve Book.

Ten minutes before the break Durrell opened the scoring by racing through the centre, outpacing Mike Booth, and smashing an early shot into the bottom corner.

Tyronne Barnett squandered a chance to increase the lead on the stroke of half time when he sent a free header over the bar, but seldom did Tivvy threaten to make Hednesford pay for their missed chances.

Cheyenne Dunkley missed the target with a header of his own at the start of the second half, and Barnett’s volley was claimed by Book as the visitors piled on the pressure.

Liam Francis came within inches of equalising when he nodded Durrell’s cross wide, and with ten minutes remaining Hednesford’s pressure finally paid off. Durrell skipped past Alex Faux on the right flank and pulled back a low cross for Ross Dyer to place beyond Book.

The Pitmen continued to dominate even with the result not in doubt, and but for Book in the Tiverton goal the winning margin could have been much greater.
