It was never going to be a walk in the park for Tivvy at title-favourites Salisbury, and the Yellows sent a scratch side that was undone with relative comfort by the Whites. Chris Wright replaced Ryan Draper between the sticks and did himself no harm with a solid performance, but with Tivvy under so much pressure eventually something had to give.

Charlie Knight, who had scored Sarum’s third at Ladysmead opened the scoring at the Ray Mac after quarter of an hour as Salisbury looked eager to wipe away memories of their recent defeats against Truro and FA Trophy opponents Darlington. And by half time they had a comfort zone when Tom Gardner headed the ball into his own net.

Wright made fine saves to keep out Chris Sheppard and Ben Adlesbury in the second half but by then there was little but pride to play for as Adlesbury had already scored Salisbury’s third of the evening with a cheeky back-heel from six yards. There was the obligatory yellow card for Adam Kelly, the former Tiverton player emulating his caution last season while playing for Bashley despite his side having the game in the bag; otherwise there was little to cheer for the threadbare Tivvy support.
