Tiverton came within a minute of holding a full-strength Plymouth Argyle side to a draw in an entertaining game, only to concede in the final minute and succumb to a battling 2-1 defeat. Jules Emati-Emati had put the Yellows ahead in the first half but Luke Young equalised shortly after the break, and the experienced Darren Purse popped up in the ninetieth minute to snatch the victory for the League Two side.

Argyle were very much on top in the early part of the game and dominated possession, pinning Tivvy deep inside their own half for extended periods. Chris Wright was being kept busy and answered everything that was asked of him, saving well from Andres Gurrieri and then Nick Chadwick, and most impressively from Conor Hourihane’s low drive.

But against the run of play Tiverton nicked the lead when the Plymouth defence was unable to deal with Andy Taylor’s free kick towards the far post, Paul Kendall nodded the ball down and Emati-Emati swivelled before drilling the ball past Jake Cole and into the bottom corner of the net.

It only took three minutes of the second half for Plymouth to draw level as Wright was finally beaten by a vicious strike from Young, the substitute crashing his effort in off the underside of the crossbar.

Nevertheless Tivvy were giving a good account of themselves and Emati-Emati had the ball in the net again, only for the goal to be ruled out for a push on Purse by Kendall in the build-up. Harry Nodwell then had Cole scrambling with a low shot that drifted just a foot wide of the post.

As time ticked on and legs became heavy it was once again Plymouth who began to dominate the game and Paris Cowan-Hall did extremely well to skip free before screwing his shot wide.

And in the final minute the Pilgrims won a corner which was floated in towards the far post where Purse was on hand, up from his normal defensive position, to prod the ball past substitute goalkeeper Ryan Draper.
