Tiverton Town 3 - 1 Frome TownTuesday 14/08/2018 Southern League Premier Division | Simon Ellis |
Three second half goals, from Levi Landricombe, Harry Evans, and substitute Jordan Rogers, turned around a half time 1-0 deficit, Kane Simpson scoring for the visitors after only two minutes, to secure back to back victories at the start of the season for the first time since making their debut in the Premier Division all the way back in 1999. The Yellows starting XI was unchanged from those who began the opening day victory at Swindon Supermarine, although all three second half substitutes had a hand in ensuring the Yellows claimed all three points while the visitors made several changes to their line up after opening day one-all draw at home to Hendon, including a return for former Yellow Ollie Knowles. The visitors quite literally flew out of the traps and led as early as the second minute, Kane Simpson beating Ben Mammola for pace before cutting back inside, steadying himself and firing low past Armstrong at his near post for a lead that would last not far short of an hour. The Yellows, though, were soon knocking on the door for a reply. Darren Bechet in the Frome Town goal did well to get down to efforts from River Allen and Levi Landricombe and Jamie Price fired wide before twenty minutes had registered. Frome, though were soaking up the pressure and then counter attacking at pace and Armstrong did well to prevent Simpson from adding his and the visitors second as they finished the half on top. Another brilliant flying save from Armstrong at start of the second forty five denied Chris Scott as again Frome were faster out of the blocks before Bechet did well to get down to Baths effort after he had sprung the offside trap before parity was restored on fifty six minutes as goalkeeper turned goal-provider. A massive clearance from Armstrong found Levi Landricombe in all sorts of space and in trademark fashion, as he has done many times before, he coolly lobbed over the stranded Bechet for the equaliser and goal number ninety-six. Bechet again foiled Bath before Jordan Rogers replaced him with quarter of an hour remaining and at the same time Harrison Davis, signed on loan from Southampton made his competitive debut as he came on in place of Hurst and it was Davis forward ball the gave the Yellows the lead nine minutes from time. Probably not how Harry Evans, awarded Man of the Match on his Ladysmead debut, envisaged his first Tivvy goal but was rightly awarded it as a Levi Landricombe shot clipped off his heels and rolled in and two-one became three-one minutes later, a Jordan Rogers bullet header from a pin-point Ethan Phillips cross, Rogers almost adding a fourth barely a minute later when his shot cannoned back into play off the underside of the crossbar, capped an excellent second half performance and more importantly all three points.
