Tiverton Towns adventure in the FA Cup came to an end at Imber court in London home of the Metropolitan Police on a pleasant October evening. The Yellows were eventually beaten by a 25-yard free kick from Ethan Chislett in the first half of extra time. Tiverton can hold their heads up high after their squad from the home tie on Saturday was severely dented due to River Allen’s departure to Truro, Ethan Phillips unable to travel due to work commitments and the absence of Jordan Rogers, Saturday’s two goal scorer through a bad sickness bug and Archie Reay.

Tiverton lined up with Liam Armstrong in goal, the three Rhino’s Jamie Price, Ben Mammola and M.O.M Tom Gardner with Josh Key returning from duty with Exeter City U23’s and Nick Hurst as the wing backs. The midfield saw Mike Landricombe partner Scott Rogers with Joel Randall also returning from duty with Exeter City. The front two were Levi Landricombe and Tom Bath. The substitutes were Harrison Davis, Callum Hall and George Rogers.

After the goal fest of the first match that finished 3-3 that was missed by the editor it was no surprise that there were no goals in the first half. There were half chances for Levi Landricombe and Nick Hurst and at the other end Liam Armstrong had to produce a great save from Jack Mazzone to keep the scores level. Just before the break the jinking Ethan Chislett had a shot just over the Tivvy goal and Josh Webb curled a shot also just over the bar.

The second half saw more of the same with Ethan Chislett causing problems to the Tivvy defence, but the three Rhino’s were at their best snuffing out any real danger apart from long range shots. Tivvy made an attacking substitution with Callum Hall coming on for Joel Randall on 60 minutes freeing up Nick Hurst. The move nearly paid dividends with a trademark Callum Hall cross for Tom Bath who had a fantastic volley that somehow the Metropolitan keeper Thomas Williams saved ant the resulting follow up went over the bar. There was still time in the last few minutes for Nick Hurst to go on a mazy 35-yard run Slalom past four players like an alpine skier and when it looked like he was going to pull the trigger for a Tivvy winner a last-ditch tackle came flying in from Louis Birch to deny the Devonians.

For the second round in succession the Met were forced into extra time. Tiverton started of brightly with Levi Landricombe and Tom Bath getting shots off, but both were denied. Then 5 minutes into extra time Jamie Price was penalised by the referee for an offence I still can’t understand what is was given for 25 yards out from the Tivvy goal. Unfortunately for Tiverton the Mets best player Ethan Chislett stepped up and curled the free kick into the right-hand corner of Liam Armstrong’s goal. From this point Tivvy again summoned up their energy reserves and threw everything forward. Levi Landricombe was narrow leigh wide with two shots that flashed just wide. The Tivvy away support finally thought that they had taken the tie into penalties when with virtually the last kick of the game Tom Bath shot on the turn from inside the penalty area but that man again Thomas Williams produced a world class save down to his left to deny the Tivvy striker. There was seconds left when Antonio Kozakis curled a shot just wide, but it wouldn’t have mattered as the sun-tanned ref blew for full time and Tiverton’s FA Cup dream was over.
