Chesham United 1 - 1 Tiverton Town

Saturday 20/10/2018   Southern League Premier Division

Under the sunshine akin to a summers day as opposed to that of the middle of October a resurgent Chesham United, who under the previous stewardship had fallen to a 7-0 defeat at nearest rivals Beaconsfield last time out, secured their first point under their new management team of James Duncan and Michael Murray who had joined from Potters Bar Town, as the well-travelled Jefferson Louis headed them in front before Levi Landricombe, who had missed the narrow, controversial defeat to Weymouth in the previous week, equalised from the penalty spot in the second half after eagle-eyed referee Dean Skipper spotted a Lewis Rolfe push on substitute Joel Randall.

Levi Landricombe replaced Scott Rogers in the only change to the starting line-up while the hosts would have been desperate to impress their new management team and quickly banish the memory of the most recent defeat and were the first to threaten when livewire forward Ryan Blakes shot was fortuitously fumbled behind by Armstrong and Rolfe volleyed over from close range from the delivery that followed, Armstrong then saved superbly from Adam Martin, Tom Gardner headed a Dave Pearce free kick off his own goal line and then, deservedly so, the hosts took the lead on thirty-six minutes. A Jefferson Louis shot from distance was tipped around the post and from the corner that followed Louis climbed highest to nod home at the near post.

Tiverton were a shadow of the side in the first half that were so cruely denied a point against Weymouth previously, but a double substitution and a change of formation for the second half swung the balance of the match back into their favour. Hall and Randall replaced Gardner and Rogers and it was nothing more than they deserved when they drew level. Man of the Match Harrison Davis, who picked up a caution in the first half and will miss the next match at Salisbury, swung a cross in from the right which Randall was poised to head home until Rolfe pushed him out of the way leaving referee Skipper with no option but to point to the spot and Levi Landricombe rolled home his ninth goal of the season just short of the hour mark, sending United keeper Ben Goode the wrong way.

Both sides created good chances to take all three points in the final thirty, Bath had an effort cleared off the line after Goode had spilled a Nick Hurst, another Hurst centre found Callum Hall who fired narrowly over and a fiercely struck Michael Landricombe drive was bravely blocked by Adam Martin and with the match almost over two Chesham corners set Yellow hearts fluttering, one bravely punched clear by Armstrong and from the other, Rolfe almost made amends for his penalty misdemeanour as headed narrowly wide.
