Tiverton Town 2 - 5 Bideford

Tuesday 06/11/2018   Southern League Cup
Simon Ellis

The Yellows were sent crashing out of the Southern League cup by their near Devon neighbours Bideford, in attrocious weather, as the visitors over-turned a halftime deficit and scored four unanswered second half goals. Sean Downing opened the scoring before Man of the Match Joel Randall bagged his first goal for the Yellows and then set up Tom Bath to give the hosts a half time lead by the odd goal in three but after the break it was largely one-way traffic. Sean Downing added his and the Robins second from the penalty spot before former Tiverton midfielder and Robins captain Ben Carter and then Ryan Turner struck and in the final minute Downing, somewhat fortuitously, added his third to complete the scoring.

A misplaced Jordan Rogers pass on twenty-five minutes sent Downing clear on goal, after a largely uneventful opening period, and he finished coolly past a stranded Armstrong but only six minutes later Jordan Rogers made amends by sending one of his own teammates through on goal and Randall finished clinically to open his account for the Yellows. Randall then turned goal provider eight minutes before the interval, his pull back from the byline found Tom Bath unmarked and the Tiverton centre-forward side-footed low into the bottom corner.

The second period was only five minutes old when the Robins drew level, Downing firing straight down the middle from twelve yards after referee Jack Clench had penalised Mammola for a trip him from behind. Jordan Rogers drew a smart save from Oliver in a rare forage in to enemy territory in the second half and from the resulting corner, a Scott Rogers header was cleared off the line. Ben Carter restored the visitors lead, drilling in from the edge of the area with twenty minutes to play, Ryan Turner curled a beauty in to the top corner and Downing added his third and the visitors fifth in the final minute, as he charged down a Callum Hall clearance and the ball ballooned in to the unguarded net.
