Tiverton Town 2 - 0 Salisbury

Tiverton Town two, Salisbury nil. That sounds familiar for some reason. The scoreline obviously and the performance in the latest victory, the Yellows fourth in the last five meetings between the two, over promotion chasing Salisbury was not too dissimilar to that from one of the greatest days in Tiverton Town FC recent history. Gritty and determined, just a few of the words (the broadcastable ones) banded about to describe the latest performance after the Yellows picked up their fourth league success in five matches thanks to a second half brace from Levi Landricombe, league goals eighteen and nineteen for the season while the defensive duties were superbly carried out, most notably by the sponsors Man of the Match Ben Mammola, so much so that the Yellows became the first team to prevent Salisbury from scoring in the league this season.

Michael Landricombe replaced Max Smallcombe in the only change from those who had beaten Gosport Borough by a goal to nil last time out while the visitors, who battled back from two down to beat Farnborough by the odd goal in five in midweek, made two changes. Whether the fact that the visitors had played in midweek while the Yellows rested was relevant to the outcome is a maybe, the weather, in the midst of some horrific wind certainly played its part in proceedings. Goal kicks from both keepers in either half did well to reach halfway in the face of the blast and high deliveries were notably affected. A Jack Sparkes free kick from the edge of the area that rattled Liam Armstrongs, who also made an excellent save to keep out a wind assisted cross from sailing past him, crossbar was as close as either side came to breaking the deadlock in the first half while the Yellows created chances without ever testing Jake Hallett in the Salisbury goal, Bath screwed a shot wide after beating the offside trap when Levi Landricombe had sent him through the stand out chance.

A giant Armstrong clearance, which Salisbury captain O`Keefe misjudged, ony five minutes after the restart sent Levi Landricombe scampering in on goal and with his usual calmness in front of goal restored after despatching the winning goal from the spot seven days before, he finished past the stranded Hallett to open the scoring. Raucous claims for a Salisbury penalty were waved away soon after when Hopper went tumbling with Mammola in close proximity as the visitors pressed for an instant response. Their pressing though left gaps and the Yellows created two great opportunites to extend their lead before they eventually did. Both Davis and Bath bore down on goal with only Hallett to beat but on both ocassions the Salisbury stopper came out on top only minutes before Levi Landricombe showed his team mates how it should be done. Bath played Landricombe in and as defenders stood waiting for an offside decision that was never coming he curled a delicious finish around Hallett with the outside of his left foot for his and the Yellows second of the afternoon.

Salisbury pressed for a way back in to the match in the minutes that remained but the Yellows held firm for another valuable three points and a second clean sheet in a row.
