Tiverton Town 0 - 2 Chesham United

Goals in either half from visiting defender Lewis Rolfe and midfielder Adam Martin condemned the Yellows to a second successive league defeat after going down by the odd goal in five at Farnborough on the previous Saturday and in all honesty, the latest defeat was one of the poorest performances seen all season. To sum up the contrast in fortunes over the recent months, when the Yellows travelled to and drew one all at Chesham last October, Tivvy sat fifth in the table while the Generals were rock bottom. Now, after the latest match, Chesham sit tenth, five places above with five points more than the Yellows who remain fifteenth.

Jordan Dyer switched to right back to fill the void left by the unwell Josh Key, Tom Gardner was recalled to the starting line-up to make appearance number 599 and Josh Wadham was named amongst the substitutes which meant no place in the squad for Isaac Furness, other than that it was as you were from the defeat at Farnborough while the visitors made two changes from those who hard done superbly well to earn a point at Salisbury, Ronny Mfinda and Jefferson Loius dropped to the bench and in their places started Eoin Casey and second half goalscorer Adam Martin.

The early action certainly did not point towards such a defeat, the visitors were second best in the opening exchanges but early Yellows pressure soon wilted away. Callum Hall sliced wide from the edge of the area when well placed, Harrison Davis, under the watchful eyes of Southampton FC scouts, wriggled his way through Chesham defenders only to see his shot saved and Tom Bath drew a superb save from Ben Goode, who at full stretch managed to get finger tips to Baths` header to flick it over the crossbar. Ryan Blake, in the Generals first real forward venture, drew a fine flying save from Yellows Man of the Match Liam Armstrong just after the half hour mark, moments before, with more than a slice of luck, the Generals took the lead. Lewis Rolfe was eventually credited with the goal which for a split second he knew absolutely nothing about as a defensive clearance crashed straight in to him before flying in past a bewildered and blissfully unaware Armstrong.

The goal and the amount of luck involved knocked the stuffing out of Tivvy. Tom Bath headed over from a Davis corner at the end of the first half and that was about as close as the Yellows came to making any in roads in to Cheshams lead. In fact it was the visitors, through most of the second half, that looked more like scoring again and with four of the five minutes of injury time played at the end of the match the visitors were awarded a penalty and the returning Adam Martin sent Liam Armstrong, who had made a couple of excellent saves beforehand, the wrong way to seal all three points and make the long midweek trek home a happy one.
