What a performance and what a start to the season! Of course no-one should be getting carried away just four matches in but, for fear of sounding like a broken record, the Yellows have come flying out of the traps and are reaping the rewards for their early endeavours and performances.

On a blisteringly hot afternoon, the Yellows were simply too hot to handle for the Rams for a big chunk of the first half and ran in five goals in twenty minutes to put the match to bed before the half time whistle was blown. Man of the Match Noah Smerdon started and finished the scoring either side of goals from Jared Lewington, a first in Yellow for Chris Shephard, Olaf Koszela and a third of the season already from the penalty spot for captain River Allen while the visitors grabbed their consolation goal in first half stoppage time when Dean Morgan headed home a free kick at the back post. George Nancekivell served his one match ban for his dismissal at Poole so Jordan Bastin was handed his second start of the season and Jordan Bentley replaced the departed Nick Grimes for the Yellows while the visitors, looking for their first points of the season, made five changes to the personnel that had lost to Farnborough last time out.

McCorkell in the Beaconsfield goal had already kept out efforts from Koszela and Shephard and Bastin screwed an effort wide of an open goal before the Yellows took the lead while at the other end the visitors too created good opportunities early on, notably after the Yellows had surrendered possession, Brendan Matthew could only fire straight at Williams. The first of Smerdons two goals of the afternoon came on twenty-one minutes after Bastin had drove forward and had a shot blocked, the ball fell perfectly for the left back to curl home, right footed, from the edge of the area and one became two six minutes later when Jared Lewington climbed highest to head home a Bastin corner on twenty-seven. Goal number three arrived another six minutes later when Shephard opened his Yellows account, some fabulous skill bamboozled two defenders and he was left with a simple finish past a stranded McCorkell and three became four on thirty-eight when Lewington chased a ball down the Yellows right, he swung over a cross and Koszela was afforded the time and space to head home from six yards out. Still the Yellows poured forwards at every given opportunity and the latest wave brought about goal number five as Lewington was sent tumbling by an outstretched defenders leg in the area leaving referee Eddie no option other than to point to the spot and River Allen duly despatched the spot kick for his third goal in three matches before the Rams grabbed what would turn out to be nothing more than a consolation in first half stoppage time when Dean Morgan headed home a deep Bayley Brown free kick at the back post.

The second half was always going to be more of a procession than that of the first, given the tropical conditions and the relatively clear notion that the match was as good as won at the break although there was to be one more incident of note when Smerdon bundled home, although there was more than a hint of an own goal about it and was awarded his second and the Yellows sixth of the afternoon after Allen had delivered a teasing free kick in to the box. Tougher examinations of the Yellows credentials follow next at Taunton and at home to Salisbury but the early signs of progression are very encouraging.
