Tiverton Town 3 - 3 Yate Town

Wednesday 06/11/2019   FA Trophy
Simon Ellis

The Yellows crashed out of the FA Trophy on penalties after Yate battled back from 3-1 down in extra time to force the dreaded spot kick deciders. Pierce Mitchell (hamstring) and Noah Smerdon (unwell) both missed out so starts were handed to Jordan Bentley and Chris Shephard in their place while the visitors fielded the exact same starting XI who had done so well eight days earlier to battle back to earn another crack at progressing.

Jordan Bastin fired the Yellows ahead on fifty two minutes only for the visitors to draw level five minutes from the end of the ninety, second half substitute Olly Mehew converted from the spot after Bentley was penalised. River Allen restored the Yellows lead with virtually the last kick of the first half of extra time and Josh Key seemingly had the Yellows in the next round as he extended the lead further four minutes later.

Back came the visitors though, as they had in the previous fixture to deservedly earn the replay and Mehew again fired home from twelve yards to set up the potential for another come-back, which was duly completed five minutes from the end of an excellent cup tie, despite the best efforts of mother nature as the rain poured down all evening, as Joe Guest smacked home an unstoppable shot from fully twenty five yards.

The Yellows previous record in penalty shoot outs didn’t do too much to instil confidence and when Forster saved from Key and Elliott blazed his effort over the damage was done and Yate hit four from four to seal their place in the second qualifying round.
