Hendon 1 - 2 Tiverton Town

Saturday 23/11/2019   Southern League Premier Division
Simon Ellis

The Yellows picked up their first ever league win over Hendon, having only played twice in the league before today, both of which ended in a stalemate last season, with second half goals from Jordan Bastin and Josh Key either side of what turned out to be the hosts consolation goal from Isaac Galliford and Hendon ended the match win ten men as Sergio Manesio collected two second half bookings in just eight minutes.

After a decent opening half in which both sides rattled the frame of the goal, Ryan Hopes curling shot bounced over off the crossbar early on and Lewington headed a Pierce Mitchell cross against the same part of the goal at the other end while Lewis Williams made an excellent save to deny the hosts on the stroke of half time.

Jordan Bastin continued his fine scoring run with his sixth goal in as many matches when he latched on to Man of the Match Chris Shephards through ball and he dinked a gorgeous finish over the onrushing Hendon goalkeeper Patrick Ohman, who was making his debut, to open the scoring just six minutes after the restart and for the next few minutes the Yellows laid siege to the Hendon goal and only some crucial blocks thwarted the Yellows attempts to further extend their lead.

Back came the hosts though and on sixty three minutes, somewhat against the run of play, they drew level. Tahjae Anderson swung over a righted footed cross from the left and Isaac Galliford climbed highest and headed an unstoppable effort past Williams in to the top corner.

The parity lasted just three minutes though. The Yellows broke down the left and eventually Smerdon fed Lewington on the edge of the Hendon area, he in turn fed Key in the right channel and Key smacked home an emphatic drive in to the far corner for his fourth goal since rejoining on loan from Exeter City back in September to seal another two-one win after beating Met. Police at home by the same score last time out.
