Swindon Supermarine 1 - 2 Tiverton Town

Sometimes in football the 'Gods' don’t necessarily dish out what’s deserved and for the second time in four days the Yellows managed to grind out a result without playing their best free-flowing football, as they’d similarly done in the mid-week FA Cup win over Bideford.

The Yellows found themselves a goal behind inside the first sixty seconds as winger Ryan Campbell fired home before defender Michael Peck and forward Jordan Lam both scored their first goals for the club to overturn the early deficit and secure all three points and while league tables mean next to nothing after two matches, two wins from two matches is a great way to start.

Jared Lewington dropped to the bench as Chris Shephard was handed his first start of the season for the only change to the starting eleven from those that had booked a place in the FA Cup second qualifying round in mid-week while the hosts fielded the same starters, which included former Yellow Pierce Mitchell, who had also managed to reach the next stage of the FA Cup.  

No sooner had the majority of the 245 crowd taken their places, the larger part of them were celebrating and as starts go from a Yellows point of view, dreadful. As defenders dallied, deciding who should take charge of the situation, Ryan Campbell made the most of the generosity afforded him and fired the hosts in front and one was almost two moments later as Michael Hopkins fired narrowly wide from the edge of the area.

The Yellows were soon creating chances of their own though and eventual equalising scorer Michael Peck narrowly missed out on connecting with a Jordan Bastin cross before the two combined again to bring about the leveller as Peck connected with another Bastin delivery and volleyed home from close range for  his first for the club.

Supporters' Man of the Match Lewis Williams then pulled off the first of several top class saves to keep out a Connor McDonagh header as an excellent first half drew to a close and quite how the hosts didn’t restore their advantage at the start of the second half, no-one will know, apart from maybe Lewis Williams. The three saves he made to deny McDonagh, Campbell and someone else (sorry, couldn’t see through the mass of bodies) were right out of the top drawer and clearly went along way to ensuring the three points would eventually head back down the M5.

Chris Shephard then stung the palms of ‘marine stopper Martin Horsell and Fletcher headed narrowly over as the two sides continued to trade blows but as 90 minutes approached a draw seemed the likeliest outcome. That until substitute Jordan Lam received the ball on the right wing and after cutting inside he smacked an unstoppable, left foot drive into the far corner for his first in Yellow to deflate the hosts and only a super save from Horsell in injury time kept the deficit to just one as he did well to keep out a thunderous strike from Ed Butcher. Tough to take from a Swindon Supermarine perspective but a superb way to win if your persuasion is Yellow.
