Without a win in four matches, including a peculiar double-header against Chesham, Harrow might have been considered there for the taking as Tiverton embarked on a second lengthy road trip in four days. A facial injury meant Gary Warren missed out, and his replacement Alfie Pond was the only change to the starting eleven that snatched a point at Kings Langley at the weekend.

The Yellows didn’t enjoy the best start to the evening, with Samuel Adenola putting the home side ahead quarter of an hour into the game, by which time Michael Bryan had already hit the crossbar with a cheeky chip that left Lewis Williams flat-footed. The writing wasn’t yet on the wall, though, and Tivvy were level just a minute later with Chris Shephard getting his second goal in as many games after Kyle Egan had given the slip to Ahmet Biler on the right wing. And the equaliser galvanised Tiverton, who had the better of the game through to the break. The fact that they were unable to sieze on their advantage is perhaps an indicator of why Town ate not flirting with the playoff places: profligacy, bad luck, good defending; call it what you will, but Tivvy’s inability to turn possession into goals is starting to become a trend. Dan Hayfield had a shot saved by Josh Strizovic, Lewis Cole defended well to thwart Owen Howe, and Matt Wright – in the midst of a goal famine – nodded Jordan Lam’s cross from the left a fraction wide of the post.

The balance of the game changed after the change of ends, and Harrow moved back in front seven minutes after the restart. Greg Moore intercepted and pressed forward, then released James Ewington who was able to finish when one-on-one with Williams. The same combination was at work on the hour mark: Moore to Ewington, a cut back inside and another cool finish, and with Harrow two goals to the good there was a feeling of Déjà vu in the Tiverton camp as the pattern of the match mirrored their previous game. However, this time there was no late comeback, and although the Yellows did grab a goal in added time again, it was a second and not a third. It was not through the want of trying, though, with chances coming (and going) for Owen Howe and Nelson Iseguan, with Tivvy again not able to punish their opponents when in the ascendency. And so it was that Olaf Koszela’s finish late on was of scant consolation.
