Chesham United 3 - 3 Tiverton Town

Saturday 03/12/2005   Southern League Premier Division
AJ

This afternoon we saw Tiverton line up with a 3-4-3 formation Milsom was on the bench (not fit), Winter returning to the back three alongside Croft & Gardner‚ with Davies pushing forward to join the midfield

Chesham have lost thirteen players in the last week or so‚ including Lawford the league's top scorer last season‚ and they have a new manager‚ what a reciepe for a banana skin.

We should have been three-nil up in first 15 minutes‚ against initially a poor and disorganised Chesham side‚ Mudgie missed a chance in the first minute‚ from a tight angle!

Then the game dramatically changed when a speculative shot (or was it a brilliant) from 25 yards sailed into the top right hand corner‚ giving Ovendale no chance. From that point Chesham gained confidence and came right back into the game .

We continued to miss chance after chance, and then paid dearly when a hopeful punt downfield was completely miskicked by Winter who was under no pressure leaving their forward to slot home‚ again giving Ovendale no chance.

Again chances went begging with Nogan missing an absolute sitter from 5 yards out after a brilliant run and pass from Mudgie right on the stroke of halftime.

Second half we came at them and again set up numerous chances‚ Mudgie hit the post with a rasping drive‚ and then with yet another defensive mix up on the right hand side‚ in which several players had opportunities to clear‚ we left their forward a clear run on goal giving Ovendale no chance.

Off came Nogan on went Fowler ‚ shortly followed by Winter to be replaced by Goff.

Seventy minutes gone‚ game lost!! Oh no Mudgie was having none of it‚ played Bale in for his first goal‚ five minutes later Pears cross for Bale to head his second.

As we poured forward the inevitable happened: we left ourselves open at the back‚ again poor poor defending allowed Chesham hit the post twice in a couple of minutes. We should have been dead a buried‚ but no, up the other end we went‚ a cross into the box saw who else but Mudge take the ball on to his chest a hit a great volley into the net‚ the next 5 minutes saw both sides to there credit trying to win it.

This game could have ended 9-8‚ but on chances Tiverton had far more‚ and amazingly neither goalkeeper made a save all game!!!

In the end a point gained‚ but in truth the match should have been over as a contest in the first 15 minutes.

On the plus side Gardner another good game‚ Davies solid yet again‚ Bale for his two goals‚ but still not back to his best‚ and Mudge best player on the pitch by a mile (my opinion).

Otherwise Nogan had a poor game‚ as did Winter‚ and Young Croft‚ was disappointing‚ as he was beaten too easily on the ground‚ the midfield played in fits and starts‚ as too many balls again were by passing them

Looking at the results tonight not too much damage done‚ but a win against Hitchin is vital.
