TIVERTON ATHLETIC v. EXETER CITY RESERVES.

Arranged in aid of the Devonshire Patriotic Fund, a match between Tiverton Athletic Association Football Club and Exeter City Reserves took place on the Athletic Ground, Tiverton, on Saturday, before a moderate "gate." The Tiverton Athletic Club have no less than 13 out of 23 members of the Club (including one of the hon. secretaries, Mr. S. Skinner) serving with the colours, and only two of its original players—Parsons and Carpenter—were available on Saturday. A number of "outsiders" were thus included, among them being three of the soldiers now billeted in the town, Tiverton being represented as follows:— W. Carpenter; A. Parsons, Private Smith; P. Norman, Sergeant Taylor, W. Hoare; Private Costello, Dymond, H. Gilpin, C. Bowen, and C.C. Wilson.

The City XI. was as follows:— Loram; Brown, Lovell; Greenway, Pratt, Evans; Russell, Barker, Hunter, Cowie and Dockray.

At the outset of play the visitors made a rush for the home goal, and within three minutes of the start, Hunter had scored. Though a foul by Parsons a penalty was awarded the Reserves and Cowie put through number two, Hunter and Cowie each adding another soon after. Tiverton rallied, and a smart bit of work by Wilson on the wing resulted in Dymond scoring the homesters' first goal. Dockray added yet another for the Exonions before half-time, which arrived with the score at 5—1.

Within a few minutes of the re-start, Gilpin scored for Tiverton. Dockray put through soon after for the visitors. Then ensued a series of rushes on either side, and from a melee in front of goal, Dymond scored the last of Tivy's goals that day. Before time came, however, Exeter had put four more goals to their credit, through Hunter (2), Barker, and Cowie, thus bringing the score at 10—3.

Mr W. Cottrell acted as referee.

It is hoped as a result of the match a sum of over £5 will be available.
