Tiverton Town 5 - 1 Beaconsfield Town

Saturday 21/08/2021   Southern League Premier Division

The Yellows second home opponents of the season was meant to be Walton Casuals next Saturday, as initially todays tie was intended to be held at Holloways Park. However, due to stadium improvements for the Rams, the Southern League agreed for the ties between the two sides to be reversed.

The last time Beaconsfield traveled to the Ian Moorcroft Stadium, as far back as 24th August 2019, the Yellows emphatically won 6-1 on that day and today’s scoreline was almost as good.

Tivvy clearly had set an agenda to bounce back from Tuesday night’s narrow defeat away at Poole and almost instantly set the tone for the afternoon as with no more than two minutes on the clock, the Yellows thought they had broken the deadlock but their celebrations were cut short after Dan Hayfield fired through a crowded box but the early strike was ruled out for offside.

Town didn’t have to wait long to be able to celebrate though, as Koszela sent a superb curling shot in the far corner, leaving Tokarczyk in the Rams goal rooted, after he had cut in from the right and stripped Rams centre back Jordan Aghatise for pace. Almost instantly though, the visitors were denied an equaliser, Lewis Williams kept them out with a superb save to deny eventual scorer Dylan Kearney.

The next 20 minutes or so felt fairly even with chances falling to both teams. Dan Hayfield almost doubled the Yellows lead on 26 minutes, Tokarczyk doing well to tip his well struck strike around the post and from the resulting corner Jordan Lam had a great chance but got his header all wrong and the visitors survived again.

A more sombre moment followed minutes later, with applause ringing out from all sides of the ground as Beaconsfield defender Josh Webb had to be stretchered from the field and we all wish him a speedy recovery.

Tiverton got the second half underway and for the first twenty minutes or so, again a fairly even affair. Dawson found himself in the thick of the action at both ends of the pitch, firstly curling a shot goalwards that was comfortably saved then moments later doing excellently to deny the visitors after they had broken forwards.

Thunderclaps could be heard around the ground but this certainly didn’t prove a distraction for the Yellows as with 17 minutes remaining, Olaf swept home and gave the score line a more respectful look and put the Yellows into a 2-0 lead. The deluge of rain that shortly followed was quite something but the visitors continued to press in terrible conditions, and they scored what would turn out to be nothing more than a consolation goal as Dylan Kearney fired home, after he was found unmarked at the back post.

That eventually proved to be a false dawn as along with the deluge of rain, a deluge of goals came from the Yellows in the last five minutes. Gary Warren scored his first for the Yellows as he reacted fastest to the corner first and smashed home the loose ball, eventual Man of the Match Olaf Koszela completed his hat trick from close range and finally Dan Hayfield beat the offside trap and Tokarczyk to the ball before tapping home his first of the season into the unguarded net.

The final whistle was blown soon after and once they had finished celebrating with home fans the Yellows made their way to the dressing room and cheers could be heard around the ground, they had secured a hard fought win in difficult conditions, beating an in form Rams side that had won their opening two fixtures of the season.
