Served his apprenticeship at Yeovil Town and following his release joined Weymouth. Signed a dual-registration with Toolstation side Gillingham Town where he was an ever-present until signing for Tivvy midway through the 2013/14 season, but with the club unsuccessful in their promotion attempt Chainey quietly left at the end of the season.
