Adam’s story is one of inspiration as he overcame a serious head injury to return to the competitive football. He initially signed for Tiverton from Clevedon Town in February 2008 to bolster a flailing back-line, and a series of excellent performances saw him assume the role of club captain in 2010. His never-say-die attitude on the pitch as well as his versatility made him a hugely popular figure both with the players and supporters, but disaster struck in May 2011 when he was the victim of a street attack that left him fighting for his life with a fractured skull. A long and arduous recovery began and Adam overcame a number of medical complications as he battled to get himself back in action. Eleven months after nearly losing his life he made a heart-warming return to the side in an end-of-season game at Yate Town, and the following summer offered the opportunity to start afresh with a full pre-season regime to help regain full match sharpness. Although he had lost the edge which made him such a ferocious defender, leading to his decision to give up the game part-way through the 2012/13 season, his remarkable recovery is both humbling and a source of inspiration to everybody that knows him. |
